Q: Who can play in the Miracle League of Keller?
A: Players ages five to 100 who have physical and/or cognitive challenges are eligible to play. Our coaches and buddies work to make games adaptable to the needs of each player. Players are teamed according to their ability rather than age, so teams may consist of youth and adult players.
Q: What do I need to bring and what is provided? What should I wear?
A: Players will receive a baseball jersey and cap. Equipment is provided for game day use. Players are required to bring their own glove, if needed. Player can wear whatever pants or shorts they are most comfortable in. Sneakers, tennis shoes, or molded cleats should be worn. No metal spikes.
Q: When do we play?
A: Games are played each Saturday for six (6) weeks during the season. There are two season, Spring and Fall. The Spring season typically begins the end of March and the Fall Season begins mid September.
Q: When are practices?
A: Your coach will contact you with your team's practice plans.
Q: What makes a Miracle League Field so special?
A: Fields are specifically designed for individuals with physical and cognitive challenges. The turf surface of the fields makes them wheelchair accessible. There are no raised obstacles as with a typical baseball field such as bases and chalk lines. The dugout area is large enough to accommodate wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment.
Q: What if a player has never played baseball before?
A: Any differently abled individual who has the desire to play baseball is welcome. Staff will adapt the game to the player’s ability. Some players may hit off a tee, and some may hit balls thrown by a pitcher. Each player has a volunteer “Buddy” to maintain the player’s safety and to offer as much or as little assistance as the player needs.
Q: What if a player cannot attend a scheduled game?
A: Please let your coach know as soon as possible if you cannot attend on a scheduled game day.
